OUR STORY
Valo was born from a chef’s passion for the moments where food, wine, and community come together with intention. Instead of opening a restaurant, founder Michael Ruhland created a place where those experiences could flourish without compromise.
He’s joined by Matías Kúsulas — Valo’s viticulturist and winemaker, and the 2024 Washington Winemaker of the Year as awarded by the International Wine Report. Known for his precision, creativity, and deep vineyard expertise, Matías brings a world‑class perspective to every bottle.
Together, Michael and Matías have built a winery and brand rooted in camaraderie, curiosity, and genuine hospitality. Today, Valo invites guests to slow down, savor, and feel at home.

Our two labels, Valo and Massalto, offer two distinct experiences under one brand. Valo is structure, precision, and intention — the expression of terroir and varietal. Massalto is the artist label by Valo — it’s experimental and expressive.
